Three-quarters of the history of Christianity saw no one arguing that point. I think you're VERY accurate when you point out that more infallible statements are made in a typical hellfire and brimstone sermon than by the Pope himself. The most important use, by far, of papal infallibility is also the most common, declaring a saint. In that excercise, the Church models itself after Mary and points the way back to Christ. We will never be able to remind the others enough that Jesus himself said his church would be built on Peter the rock, not on the Bible, not on anything else but the solid, orthodox teaching of the deposit of faith from those who knew Our Lord himself, down to this very day, continuously and in harmony with the apostles and saints. Also, I always like to point out in our RCIA classes that the Assupmtion of Mary is somewhat Biblical. In Revelation, God allows John to see the mass that is happening in Heaven, he also sees the woman crowned with twelve stars. He doesn't see Our Lady in spirit only, he sees her flesh and blood and even physically describes her - of course he also sees the prophets, saints and angels, which is in harmony with earlier scripture. It's hard to argue that Mary isn't there in Heaven completely united with her flesh. I wish there wasn't that point of contention among those who dismiss us as mere Mary-worshippers. When seeking and living in the fullness of Catholic truth, you absolutely must recognize that because of a humble woman, mankind was saved. I don't know why more feminists aren't Catholic! The whole religion is alive because a woman said, "YES!" A full, fruitful, truly universal faith must recognize the contribution of mankind, and uniquely, women, in the salvation of the world. Then again, what do I know, I'm just a Mary-worshipper.WadeLairnoreply@blogger.com
